HELPING PEOPLE IMPROVE THEIR LIVES
ArticleHealthy Habits The world is full of beauty and magnificence, as well as amazing people. The really great thing is it can be even better! Amazing people start as amazing children. To make the world a better place children need to learn to love! Each generation builds on the next, gaining new ideas and understanding from the last. In essence, the next generation can reach higher by standing on the shoulders of the ones before it. In each child is a perfect being. Truly children have no prejudice, no biases, no dysfunction; they are a blank slate in regards to this world. Children are full of love and light and purity (actually so are adults). They look at the world with wonder and awe. They are, every minute, filling in the details of life. Children are like a blank canvass and the world is the artist. Every experience, every interaction is an opportunity to learn (actually, this never stops throughout our lives). By surrounding children with positive examples and experiences they can grow up with a better attitude, better coping skills, a positive outlook on life, and more importantly less fear. The far reaching effects of having children who can see the world as beautiful is limitless. These will be people who will run our companies, our government and foreign policy. If these people learn positive habits as a child they will subconsciously carry them into adulthood. Lots of research has been done on the subject of teaching children positive habits and allowing those habits to permeate the rest of their lives. One such study was done by the National Institute of Health. The study was called "Know Your Body." In the study 485 children were enrolled in a long-term behavior modification program that taught health habits. The results were outstanding. They showed that the study group had a 73% lower rate of smoking by the 9th grade, and they had significantly better eating habits as well. The study shows that children can be taught habits that will favor their long-term health. The best part was that the program was "do-able", as well as acceptable to students, their parents, and the schools. The goal of the study was to make a long-term difference in the health of people by educating them while they are young. They concluded that the things we learn as children grow up with us and become part of our norms. Supporting a child's physical body is important as well. Allow for plenty of activities, (including ample time to play and imagine) make available nutritious foods, and make sure they have a well functioning nervous system. Children who regularly see chiropractors have been getting "healthy" education for years. Chiropractors promote a healthy lifestyle as well as a healthy nervous system. By adjusting the spine they maintain a nervous system free of interference, called vertebral subluxations. Children who get their spines checked regularly have double the benefits according to the information in the National Institute of Health study. They are making health conscious steps now as well as creating healthy habits that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. There are vast amounts of information available today, sometimes too much. Often some information contradicts other, which makes it difficult. Indigo Children, by Jan Tober is a book that can help parents and caretakers understand the needs of children in the new millennium. Children today are strong willed, they are more advanced and their needs are different than previous generations, and it is an art to raise them, this book will shed light on many issues and perhaps lead your children to live a more Brilliant Life.
